The debate for Mars never ends

It’s been going on for years; how did those canals and gullies formed on the surface of Mars? Some scientists say it was water (the so called ‘Blue Mars’ model) or the ‘White Mars’ model (carbon dioxide deposits creating dry-ice landslides).

Mars is in reality a cold dry and dusty place. Colder than Antarctica and drier than the Sahara, it has less than 1% Earth’s atmospheric pressure, and 97% of that is suffocating CO2. The mean surface temperature on Mars is around -60 oC (hey, not the best place for a holiday but given the chance I’d go anytime).

With the help of Mars Odyssey orbiting around the red planet, another theory is proposed; melted snow - The melted water carves the Martian landscape, creating the gullies. (more…)
