My Mac mini appears to have survived last night’s hard disk upgrade I performed following this guide. The whole process was quite straightforward and opening the case was relatively easy (using a putty knife). I replaced the sluggish internal Seagate 4200 spin drive with a 5400 and the difference was truly outstanding. I now have a normal, responsive Mac! Recommended for any Mac mini owner with a 4200 drive, as long as you are prepared to void your warranty that is!

After find out about RoundCube from Paul Stamatiou I decided to give it a go on my server. Paul has written an excellent guide on how to install it on your webserver, although I went for the easy path and downloaded the package. A few clicks later, I had RoundCube running on my site; you beauty!

With the year nearly over I signed up to 43 Things to keep my goals manageable (ok, so I probably won’t get do all the things in the list). It’s interesting to see what other people want to do these days.

After a small hiatus from blogging, I return with the usual intentions on keeping this site updated. At the very least, I emerge with new radical concepts such as ‘how to find spare time following the birth of a baby’ and ‘how to work yet on another project with little or no spare time’. Nevertheless, I continue to push on development with a project based on Puakma (yep that’s right, not a Domino app!).

I have only praise for Puakma and Brendon Upson, the brains behind Puakma Technology. It has certainly come a long way since Jake told us about it a couple of years back; Puakma now boasts a new and improved 100% Java based server and a shinny new Eclipse based IDE (currently in beta). For our project, Puakma is a refreshing and fun approach to developing web applications; especially coming from a Domino perspective.

I’m forever searching for decent CSS table design examples; the CSS table gallery site is an easy way to browse through a number of table designs and examine the CSS.

Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D; I can’t wait for this one to hit the very big screen! Opens in Melbourne IMAX on 20 October 2005.

Whilst looking for a *very* simple photo management system to put some of Renae’s pictures up on the site, I discovered PhotoStack. It doesn’t get any simpler that this, and a new improved version is almost ready for release.

Our little Renae Bekas arrived on Monday 5/9/05 7:19pm at the Frances Perry hospital weighing 3.33 kg; I haven’t had the chance to go through all the photos yet but here’s a sneak preview! Ange and little Renae are doing very well indeed (I need some sleep :).
